Minerals, hormones and gut ecology are usually assessed by three different people who never speak to each other. Yet they are profoundly interwoven aspects of every woman’s terrain.

Her copper rises with her estrogen, because estrogen increases copper absorption and drives the protein that carries it. Her iron falls with her bleeding, and how much she rebuilds each month depends on her stomach acid and the state of her gut lining. The estrogen her liver conjugates and sends to bile only leaves her body if her transit is good and her microbiome isn't reactivating it on the way out. Her thyroid governs the metabolic rate that determines how efficiently she uses any of it, and her thyroid is itself sensitive to her mineral status.
